This morning, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, himself a former US Senator, has appointed Lt. Gov. Jon Husted as Ohio's new U.S. Senator, succeeding Vice President-elect JD Vance, who resigned earlier this month.
This comes after pressure from President-elect Donald Trump for DeWine to select Vivek Ramaswamy.
Jon Husted has served at Lieutenant Governor since 2019, after initially seeking the Republican nomination for Governor in 2018. Ohio's Lieutenant Governors are elected on the same ticket as Governor.
Prior to serving as Lieutenant Governor, Husted served under Governor John Kasich as Ohio's Secretary of State from 2011-2019, as an Ohio state senator from 2009-2011, and as a member (2001-2009) and Speaker (2005-2009) of the Ohio House of Representatives.
In the Senate, Husted represented the 6th district, while in the House, Husted represented the 41st district.
A native of Royal Oak, Michigan, and resident of Upper Arlington, Husted married the former Tina Zwayer in 2006. They have three children together.
He holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from the University of Dayton.
